Proverbs 31 Revisited -Part 1

These are probing questions I am asking my own soul today..

“An excellent wife, who can find? For her worth is far above rubies.” Prov. 31:10

flower.JPG In whatever role God has called you to fill, are you pursuing excellence? Am I pursing excellence in my role as wife and mother?

1. Read & Seek - Am I striving to grow in knowledge and wisdom for the tasks I will face? Am I reading and gleaning from other wise women who have gone before me or who the Lord has placed around me? How am I doing in reading books that will edify and strengthen my calling? How am I doing in seeking out wisdom and counsel from Titus 2 women?

2. Dependence upon the Savior – Am I leaning fully upon the Savior to be successful in my purpose? How can I hope to bring glory to God and be faithful if my eyes are not fixed upon Him and fully dependent upon Him? Am I being faithful and consistent in my devotions -keeping Him first in my life?

3. Faithfulness in the Little Things – Excellence comes from being faithful in the little things. In the world’s eyes, motherhood is a despised occupation. These little things are not worth our time, energy and devotion. Our eyes should be focused on pursuing a career and making our presence known to the world. In God’s eyes it is truly valuable and worth far above rubies. Am I being faithful to meet the need when it arises? To wipe a runny nose, to serve some coffee to a needy husband, to clean that messy diaper…every little thing counts for eternity.

Unfortunately, this kind of woman, is extremely difficult to find so much more so in our day and age. Can we strive in this high and holy calling to be faithful and pursue excellence to the glory of God?

Natural Cold Remedies for Children

remedy.JPG

Karis has had a lovely cough, cold and congestion for almost four weeks now. It kept coming and going, leaving us with a very fussy, clingy baby. We are finally nearing the end of it, as I see her smile coming back…thanks to these wonderful home remedies that Grandma Edmonds mixed up together for (thanks Mama!). We visited the doctor today to make sure nothing serious was happening in her body, and low and behold she said that I was doing it right. She recommended me to continue the ear ache and stuffy nose remedies listed below. I think the key is to catch it early on, which is what I failed to do.

Mission Minded Budget

budget.JPG

Since completing my simple living series, and digging deeper into the topic of money, saving and frugality…God has really impressed a vision on my heart. We sat down with a lovely missionary couple last week as well which also inspired this vision. How can we be preparing now for God’s mission for our family?
Here it is…why not adjust our budget to such an extent that we provide for our basic needs and anything above and beyond that would be for God’s kingdom work? Can we make our budget work so that we are living a mission minded lifestyle? Can we figure out the very least amount we could live on month by month, and any earnings above that would be given to the Lord?

Budget Menu Planning: Monthly Menu

dinner.JPG

One of my goals during the holiday break was to compile a monthly menu plan. I was first inspired to work out a monthly menu plan by Tammy’s Recipes. I saw this as a good means of simplifying by grocery shopping and planning all at once. It has saved me time and energy and the frustration of never knowing what to make on a certain week (maybe this is just my problem!).

Now this menu may vary in the summer, and I will probably make a separate summer monthly menu to throw in some variety. My method may not work for you, but here are a few things that I have learned that may be helpful in whatever menu planning method you choose…

Winter Monthly Menu Plan

dinner2.JPG

Here is my winter monthly menu plan! It works great to post it on the fridge, so it is easily viewable. It helps me to look it over each morning so I can get a head start on dinner preparations. I don’t always stick strictly to it, as flexibility is always needed as plans change, but it is a helpful guideline to have. From my monthly menu plan, I made a monthly shopping list of ingredients needed for the recipes. So I have one menu plan and one shopping list. Have you realized by now how much I love simplicity!

For pointers on making a monthly menu plan, visit here.

In a place of waiting…

two-chairs.JPG

My heart is waiting…waiting to know what His will is for our lives. I want to be surrendered, fully dependent upon him…but my heart cries out to know the reason for the struggle…the reason for the unknown. We are going through a lot of changes right now…and I can’t share all the details at this point, but I wanted to share this thought.

The Treasure of Prayer

prayer.JPG What a special gift prayer is to Christ’s disciples! It is the communication line between a Mighty Savior and a needy sinner. It is a gift of grace that supplies the strength in time of need.

This last year, Aaron & I were burdened to become more faithful in the gift of prayer. Being more purposeful in this practice and strengthening our relationship with the Lord as a result. I am so thankful that God answered our prayers, and I just wanted to share a few means that have been highly beneficial for us. We are not there yet, but it is a blessing that God does hear our cry to be more faithful prayer warriors, and supplies us with the means of grace to accomplish that.

Monthly Baking Routine

img_1661.JPG

The final product: 3 loaves of bread, 2 dozen muffins, 1 dozen biscuits

In light of my goal to simplify my life (schedule and all!), I have began to complete my baking for the month all at once. I am trying to increase eating whole grains as a more substantial part of our diet. They are so nutritious and filling, so we don’t have to eat as much meat (as grain is an excellent source of protein as well and far cheaper!).

Kitchen Uses for Dr. Bronner’s

img_1671.JPG I am all about getting multiple uses with one product! Not only does it typically save money, but it keeps my house more simplified!

Recently, I have incorporated the wonderful natural ingredients of Dr. Bronner’s organic castile soap in my kitchen cleaning routine!
