A Valuable Task

I’m at the Relevant conference this weekend continuing to be strengthened and encouraged in using this blog for the glory of God (If you are a blogger, check out the live streaming!)…so I thought I would leave you with this quote:

“How can it be a large career to tell other people’s children about the rule of three, and a small career to tell one’s own children about the universe? How can it be broad to be the same thing to everyone, and narrow to be everything to someone? No. A woman’s function is laborious, but because it is gigantic, not because it is minute. I will pity Mrs. Jones for the hugeness of her task; I will never pity her for its smallness.”

G.K Chesterton

Thank-you for this! My boy’s in bed for his nap, but I needed to read this right now. Motherhood is a difficult task, and at times it feels thankless (bitten, hit, poo-ed on, scratched, glasses broken). But when you get the hugs and kisses, the cuddles and the good behaviour when we’re out and about (and the occassional compliments that go with it), it’s all worth every moment!
Thank-you for your blog & please, please, keep ‘em coming!

Thanks so much for sharing the quote! And thank you again and again, Lindsay, for the time and work you put into this blog. It’s the best resource I’ve ever found for articles and encouragement in my blessed roles as wife and mom. Thanking God for you!

The kids are getting so big! They are absolutely beautiful, Lindsay. They look just like their mama.

Thanks for sharing. Even though I know it, I still seem to need reminded often :)

This is a great quote and definitely something I have been struggling with lately! Sometimes it is really hard to see the big picture of how much we are really doing for the long term benefit of our children. Such great inspiration – thank you and enjoy the conference!

Great quote! I graduated nursing school (my dream job) in December and gave birth to my daughter in December. It took me almost a year to make the choice to stay home with my daughter full time. Sometimes I miss nursing, but it’ll still be there when she doesn’t need me anymore. :o )

great quote… sometimes i have to adjust my thinking… i’m not just a stay-at-home mom, i’m so much more than “just” that to my son. what an amazing priviledge and huge responsibility!

    Great quote, thanks for sharing!
I hope you have a great time at your conference. You are a blessing to so many people – thank you for giving so much of yourself for the encouragement of us around you. Evidence of Jesus’ grace in your life abounds!

That is absolutely fantastic! I’ve had people act like I was settling because I just wanted to be a stay at home mom. Like its beneath me or something. It is the greatest calling a woman can receive, in my opinion!

Much needed. It’s so easy to want to make much of myself, and to feel like that’s not happening as a mother. Instead, I need to remember that in all things, I am called to make much of my precious Lord–and what an amazing gift to get to do that with my daughter!

I love that quotation & agree full-heartedly b/c being a mother is the most challenging thing I’ve ever done & I’ve kept very busy before.
