Soap Nuts Giveaway!

picture-1Soap Nuts are an incredible green/natural product that continues to fascinate me the more I learn. God supplied us with a fruit from His creation that cleans our laundry with no additives! It grows on trees! Just a simple dried nut placed in a small bag and thrown into your laundry! I am in awe of how He beautifully supplies all we need without any harsh chemicals.

Soap Nuts clean effectively without the addition of softeners. 100% natural, chemical-free, frangrance-free, biodegradable and hypoallergenic. Extremely low cost per load! I love how you can convert these soap nuts into a liquid detergent or a powder detergent or just use as they are – whatever method you prefer. Soap nuts are definitely the most natural and frugal laundry detergent option on the market!

Read more about them in my previous post here.

NaturOli has donated twenty 5-load sample packs of their soap nuts to giveaway to our readers! Horray! Now you can have an opportunity to try out this wonderful product. So we will have 20 winners on this one!

I have tried two different brands of soap nuts, Maggie’s Soap Nuts & NaturOli. I cannot even compare the two. Maggie’s are packaged overseas whereas NaturOli’s are carefully inspected and packaged in the States (without any plastic, I should add). Maggie’s came to me all sticky in a plastic bag, with some broken, chipped nuts, whereas NaturOli’s were beautifully dried and carefully selected. No stickiness whatsoever thus a far superior product. Another bonus…NaturOli’s are more reasonably priced!

This sample pack includes enough soap nuts for approximately 5 loads, a small wash bag, and an 8 page introduction & instruction pamphlet.

Giveaway ends: Friday, June 12, 5:00 pm PST

Giveaway limited to US participants only.

I recently became an affiliate for NaturOli, as I highly respect this company, so if you make any future purchases of soap nuts, please consider purchasing through my links. They also sell high quality skin care products as well. That would be a blessing!

Now I am off to experiment with using soap nuts for various other household cleaning endeavors!

We just bought our first (and last) home so I am able to have my family’s things readily available (instead of in storage) and homemade! Also, my hubby and son have sensitive skin (hubby had many allergies/eczema as a kid) so we are always looking for pure, natural soaps, food, etc.

Thanks again Lindsay, your site is a wealth of information and a blessing to our family!

My husband just gave me a very skeptical look when I read him your post. I’d love to prove him wrong – and find a frugal, natural, hypo-allergenic laundry detergent!
And I just heard today that we live in the same city (mutual friend). Love knowing that you can do all these frugal-green activities here in suburbia. Gives me even more inspiration. :-)

  60. June June 11, 2009 at 7:01 pm #

    Lindsay –

Thanks for all your research on the Soap Nuts. I’m very intrigued. I recently tried making my own dish washing and laundry detergent due to the harsh chemicals found in most store bought. My husband didn’t like the “smell” of the laundry detergent. Maybe he won’t mind the Soap Nuts. Thanks to NaturOli for the donating the giveaway!

  64. Mandy June 11, 2009 at 5:50 pm #

So, I am curious- do you use this with cloth diapers, too? And it has no fragrance? (I have to confess, I really like a bit of nice smell. :)

    • Lindsay June 12, 2009 at 11:43 am #

Yes, I do use them for our diapers. They don’t have a distinct smell but they definitely smell fresh. You can actually put some essential oil on a washcloth to add fragrance. Just throw it in with the wash.

  79. Lisa June 11, 2009 at 3:28 pm #

I am fascinated! I’m definitely going to try these. I have a question though. Your Q&A seems to indicate that these are benign if taken internally, but one website I read said that they’re poisonous. I can appreciate that they are all natural as a cleanser, but I do have two littles who put everything in their mouths. Are they poisonous if ingested?

    • Lindsay June 12, 2009 at 11:44 am #

They are really too large to eat, but no, they are not poisonous…it is just not recommended to ingest them in large quantities.

  80. Elizabeth June 11, 2009 at 3:03 pm #

Would love to be able to give them a try … I’m also interested in your homemade Borax-less laundry soap. Once I’m out of my current stuff will do so. We don’t have a dishwasher (unless you count the human-types) so I was interested to see that you have a recipe for dish soap also.

  81. Hope June 11, 2009 at 3:02 pm #

I have seen these in natural health food stores, never tired them but would like to.

I heard about soap nuts a while back and was skeptical about trying them. But after reading your post and seeing that you really like them, I would love to try them too. Yes, isn’t God good. He has provided all our needs and it is sad that we have been led astray to use harsh chemicals and toxins in our homes all these years. Thanks Lindsey for all your hard work in researching safe and effective products for us to use. You are a blessing.

I have been dying to try these soap nuts! I was actually reading up on them a little earlier today, and I was so excited when I foudn your giveaway!

  102. Tracy June 11, 2009 at 11:13 am #

Hi I found your link through a friends’ blog who raves about soap nuts. I am highly allergic to…pretty much everything! One huge problem is laundry detergent and if I don’t wash my clothes and sheets in very specific ways I itch and itch and itch. I would love to try these out and see if my problems can be fixed!

    http://adserogers.blogspot.com/

  145. Danielle June 11, 2009 at 6:34 am #

I’m thrilled to see that you’ve posted a give-away for the soapnuts. I’ve just ordered some through Mountain Rose Herbs (7$/LB), which is the best price that I’ve seen so far. I’ll let you know if they are packaged similarly to how you described Naturoli’s. Even though I’ve already ordered some, I’d love to win a sample pack to give to a friend.

Thanks for all the research you do!
    Danielle

    • Lindsay June 11, 2009 at 2:40 pm #

Danielle, I was thrilled to see the price for soap nuts that you purchased but after further review I would not recommend them. Read more about it here. He is talking specifically in this article about trying the MRH variety. I received a picture comparing them to NaturOli’s and there is a significant difference. It is probably the worst thing anyone could try to experiment with soap nuts. Somehow MRH got ripped off. The actual nuts of the fruit will stain your clothing. I will be sharing more about it shortly. Just be aware that it will be a completely different product in quality. I would recommend you return them.

      • Danielle June 12, 2009 at 9:44 am #

Thanks for the heads-up. Now I’m a tad bit discouraged. I’ll examine the product when I get it and see what I can do about returning them.

        Thanks again,
        Danielle

I just found your blog a few weeks ago, and have been enjoying learning about so many things I was unaware of. Like raw milk! I started searching and scouring on the internet, not really thinking I’d be able to find any near me, and low and behold I found some in a health/whole food store just around the block from my house I wasn’t even aware of for 4 years, how fabulous is that? So thanks for being such an inspiration and sharing your wonderful knowledge so freely!

I would just love to try these as well. How fabulous to have 20 winners, too!

  164. Corinne June 11, 2009 at 5:29 am #

  171. Sarah June 11, 2009 at 5:13 am #

I would love to be entered in the giveaway. I’ve been intrigued since you started posting about laundry alternatives. I recently started making my own detergent (using the borax) before reading your post about it, but I haven’t been thrilled with it so far. We’re expecting a baby shortly and will be using cloth diapers so I’ve been trying to figure out what we’re going to use to wash them. I’ve been seeing ads for soap nuts all over the place lately, but was skeptical about whether they really worked. Thanks for sharing your experience.

  172. Colette June 11, 2009 at 5:07 am #

I would really like to give these a try! I am always looking for more cost-effective solutions for keeping our home. (Bonus: By buying from NaturOli, you don’t have to bring that awful picture that’s on the front of Maggie’s into your home!)

I have not seen anything like soap nuts yet, but I would love to try them! I like how they are 100% natural. I have been using a liquid detergent made from plant extracts. It claims to be all natural, but it does not give a detailed list of ingridients, so I’m not quite sure what’s in it.

  189. Jill June 11, 2009 at 3:19 am #

I would love to win the soapnuts! I have been making my own detergent for about a year and would love to find an alternative to borax.

  273. Stephanie June 10, 2009 at 5:37 pm #

I’ve used the Maggies and really liked them, but that is my only experience with soap nuts. As you pointed out, they were in plastic and bits of the plastic stuck to them and were a pain to get off. I was disappointed by that. Even if I don’t win, I think I’ll get a trial pack to see how I like them. The Maggie’s did a much better job cleaning our diapers than anything else I’ve used.

  274. ruth anne shorter June 10, 2009 at 5:35 pm #

I would just love to try this product, but I am afraid to buy before trying this product. Thanks for letting us know about all these neat things.

I can’t wait to give these a try!!!

  279. Summer June 10, 2009 at 5:27 pm #

I had never even heard of soap nuts before I ran across your blog. I must admit I’m not as health conscious as I’d like to be, but I’ve been getting more interested in learning about natural products. I would like to find some solid research about chemicals in products that are marketed to us like shampoo, soap, etc.

Anyway, I love the idea that soap nuts can help eczema too. I am currently trying product number 6 on my sons eczema. It’s not getting worse but not getting any better either. I think soap nuts are next on my to try list.

Thanks for the info and giveaway!

  411. Pamela June 10, 2009 at 11:17 am #

These sound great! I’m guessing that because they don’t generate suds, then the bag of soap nuts can stay in the load through the rinse cycle… ?

I’m really enjoying your blog! Thanks so much!

  439. Jill June 10, 2009 at 10:41 am #

I have heard of soap nuts before, but haven’t tried them. They sound really interesting!

Is there a difference between organic and non-organic soap nuts?
    Jill

    • Lindsay June 10, 2009 at 3:02 pm #

No. Soap nut trees grow in the wild and thus not subject to pesticides or chemical sprays. Secondly, bugs don’t like soap nuts anyway, so there is no need for chemicals.

  440. Becca Cross June 10, 2009 at 10:38 am #

I’ve always wanted to try these…..thanks for the review also!

Thank you for your blog! My husband works for our church and I’m a mama at home with two wonderful little girls girls (2.5 and 8 months). I’ve been reading your blog and it’s wonderful to see a woman after God’s own heart serving her family. You’re a wonderful example to many, and I have already appreciated your interesting and helpful insights into homemaking. I’ve been making more and more of my own homemade cleaners and have been intending to trying homemade laundry detergent for a while..and my store bought stuff is just about to run out, so this would be a good time to take the plunge! Thank you again! God bless your family!

I have been wanting to try Soapnuts for awhile, currently we use Charlie’s soap and have been pleased but I like the idea of using a truly natural God made product. With 5 boys we have lots of laundry: )

  552. Marsha June 10, 2009 at 8:13 am #

I’ve read about soapnuts before but have never tried them. I’m always looking for natural ways to clean. Our society has been so heavily influenced by chemical companies to believe their products are safe and effective when there are so many natural, less-known alternatives around. Thanks for hosting this giveaway!

  553. Nate June 10, 2009 at 8:12 am #

I have never heard of these before. Fascinating and amazing that God provides for our every need, even clean clothes : )

those sound great! i have recently starting reading your blog and love all the natural ideas that you have. i would love to try these!

  569. Heidi June 10, 2009 at 7:56 am #

One little thing I’d point out because I went to research them: they are great if you’re doing multiple loads of laundry on the same day. But I only do one, maybe two, loads a week, so they wouldn’t be economical for me. Maybe I could convert them … But anyway, they’re better for people with more laundry!

    • Lindsay June 10, 2009 at 8:00 am #

Actually, they work perfectly fine if you are doing laundry throughout the week. I do it all the time! You just want to take them out of the washer. I just place them on top of the dryer to dry between loads.

      • Heidi June 10, 2009 at 8:02 am #

OH, ok – good to know. I was going off the comments on Amazon.com and some other places – researching before I bought.

  570. Amy June 10, 2009 at 7:55 am #

Thanks so much for all the great natural cleaning ideas :-) I would love to try the soap nuts!

  571. Becky June 10, 2009 at 7:55 am #

  577. Jamie June 10, 2009 at 7:46 am #

Count me in! I’ve been using commercial laundry products for my entire married life, and now, after 13 years and four kids, I’m ready for a healthier alternative! Thanks for all the work you do, and thank you so much more for sharing what you learn with the rest of us! :)

  578. Jackie June 10, 2009 at 7:46 am #

  580. Bekah Brooks June 10, 2009 at 7:45 am #

Hello! I recently found your blog, and am very interested in your posts. My husband likes to use “natural/whole grains/homemade” things, that are also better for the budget (I’m learning!) I’d love to try soap nuts. Have a great day! :)

  581. Charlee June 10, 2009 at 7:44 am #

Loved reading about your research on the soap nuts. Would love the chance to try them out! :)

  582. Rebecca June 10, 2009 at 7:40 am #

Wow I would love to try them considering just about the only laundry detergent I can use is woolite because my skin is so sensitive.

  583. Amy @ Finer Things June 10, 2009 at 7:35 am #

As I continue my quest toward more natural homemaking, products like this absolutely fascinate me. I’d love to win a pack!

  584. MacKenzie June 10, 2009 at 7:35 am #

I think soap nuts sound like the coolest thing! My skin and laundry detergent do not get along very well and as soon as my next bottle of (never on sale safe for my skin type) is used up, I will be trying these. I’d love to win them, but either way, I need to get me some.

  585. Denise June 10, 2009 at 7:33 am #

Thank you so much for all the helpful laundry cleaning info. I had recently gotten two different recipes for homemade detergent using borax etc. I was excited to try them out after finishing up my bulk purchases of BioKleen laundry detergent. However, then I ran across your entries on borax and the natural alternatives (that are good for environment and us) like Soap Nuts. I am excited to try this out. Thanks for doing all the research. It is much appreciated.

  586. Mary June 10, 2009 at 7:32 am #

I would love to try this. Sounds awesome! Great blog Lindsay. I check you out almost everyday!

  587. Tonni June 10, 2009 at 7:30 am #

I’ve been thinking about switching to soapnuts… when the time comes for cloth diapers, I will definitely try it!

  588. Samantha June 10, 2009 at 7:28 am #

I blogged about your giveaway at http://notsosimplysle.blogspot.com/.

  589. Krista June 10, 2009 at 7:28 am #

I’ve been thinking about switching our laundry to something more natural, but didn’t want to pay th premium price for it (we’re on a really tight budget). After reading your reviews of soap nuts and Charlies, I thought that maybe this would be somthing we could do. It would be great if we could try it out first, though. This is a great giveaway. Thanks for all your research and commentary on everything. It really is a HUGE blessing to me (and I’m sure a lot of other people, too). Thanks!

  590. Erin June 10, 2009 at 7:24 am #

How cool! I’ve recently read a little about Soap Nuts, and would love to try them out.

  601. Rebekah June 10, 2009 at 7:08 am #

Sooo interesting! I have been using a “homemade” laundry soap for about 9 months now and then I read your Borax post so I stopped using it and went back to regular-ole store bought laundry soap. I have desperately been in pursuit of a different natural soap since! Thanks! :)

  602. Katie Carter June 10, 2009 at 7:07 am #

I also have not tried soap nuts, but am intrigued to experiment with them. Thanks for the give away opportunity.

I love your blog! Thank you so much for the encouragement and great ideas. I am working to slowly use more organic foods and cleaning supplies after the birth of my son. :) I would love to try the soap nuts! You may have posted this earlier, but do they work well on cloth diapers? Blessings!

  606. Amy June 10, 2009 at 7:03 am #

I’m brand new to your blog, having found the wonderful tomato soup recipe earlier this week. These soap nuts are intriguing!

  607. Rebecca S. June 10, 2009 at 6:59 am #

Soap nuts sound very interesting. I would be excited to give them a try. Can you use them with diapers?

  608. Wardeh @ GNOWFGLINS June 10, 2009 at 6:57 am #

I am a new reader to your blog (about 3 weeks) and have been enjoying it very much! I too got interested in the soap nuts after you did your review. I would love to be a winner of one of the trial packets! Thanks ~

    I’d love to try these!

  610. L-C June 10, 2009 at 6:51 am #

Oh I would just love to try soap nuts! My husband and I are getting ready to travel around the world, and I think soap nuts will be fantastic for traveling, whether we do laundry in the sink or in a machine. That way, we won’t have to hunt down laundry soap at each place!

  611. Karyn June 10, 2009 at 6:50 am #

I’ve never heard of this, but I’d love to give it a try!
If I can convince my husband. He’s sort of a laundry Nazi. He prefers to the laundry – and all that comes with that. I’m happy to give it to him!

  612. Teresa June 10, 2009 at 6:48 am #

What a great idea. I’ve been making my own detergent (containing borax) – but I’m going to try Soap Nuts. They certainly sound simpler…

  613. Erica June 10, 2009 at 6:36 am #

I also have really been enjoying your blog. It has helped me alot in my quest for a more simple healthy lifestyle for me and my family. I love the deoderant! I have been making my own laundry detergent for a while now but would love to try the soap nuts. I’m looking for every way possible to get the chemicals out of my house. Your recipes have been really delicious too.

  614. Erin June 10, 2009 at 6:35 am #

I’ve been intrigued by soap nuts, just haven’t tried them yet. That huge bucket of Charlie’s Soap has lasted well over a year…it’s getting low and time to try something new!

  615. Joni June 10, 2009 at 6:30 am #

I have been following your blog since late last year and have really enjoyed reading about the research you have done on several different things. I have been using my own laundry soap made out of the borax that you were talking about. I am interested in looking into the Soap Nuts product instead. Thanks again for all of the research you do!

  616. erica June 10, 2009 at 6:28 am #

How awesome! I already use Charlies soap, but would love a chance at trying the soapnuts! Yay

  617. Emily June 10, 2009 at 6:26 am #

This sounds really neat and I would love to give it a try. Thanks for encouraging our generation to be women who glorify God and respect our husbands. It means a lot.

  618. Brianne June 10, 2009 at 6:15 am #

I have yet to try soap nuts- what a perfect opportunity!

  619. Jennifer June 10, 2009 at 6:12 am #

First, I really love your blog – it is so inspirational and full of great ideas. When you first mentioned Soap Nuts I immediately put it on my list of things to research and try out. We are always trying to find ways to simplify, and Soap Nuts seem like the way to go. Thanks again for such a lovely blog.
