Book Study: Mission of Motherhood

I have been diving into The Mission of Motherhood by Sally Clarkson lately with great enthusiasm and excitement as my heart is stirred with a greater passion and vision to be a godly and nurturing mother for my little ones. I have such a short coming by getting caught up in my daily schedule and to-do’s and loss sight of the short time given to me to invest in my child’s heart for eternity. I don’t want these precious moments to be wasted because the world around me minimizes the importance of a mother’s role. Little do they know what an important task God has called me to in leading a peaceful nurturing home, where Christ is the center of it all.

“God designed motherhood to be a deeply meaningful role. We mothers have the opportunity to influence eternity by building a spiritual legacy in the lives of our children. Through our teaching and influence, morality can be learned and modeled, love and kindness are taught and received, purpose and vision are ignited and passed on.

” I have come to picture the heart of each child as a treasure chest. Each chest is empty and needs to be filled with the riches of unconditional love, spiritual nurture, and the emotional heritage of family and traditions; with mental stimulation that comes from excellent sources of truth, morality, and inspiration; with a sense of physical and emotional security; and with the guidelines for all of life, including purpose, relationships, and proper behavior.”

Oh, I pray that God would ignite this vision in my heart and equip me with His truth that I might passionately live this out in my home. Do you desire to be equipped for this high and holy calling? Do you care to join me in this read? I felt prompted that this was a good title to use for our second online book study. I will be sharing brief quotes and/or how the Lord is speaking into my life as I read and post these thoughts on a weekly basic (highlighting one chapter a week), and you are welcome to join me in sharing your thoughts as well.

Order your copy today and please let me know if you would like to join me!

We will be starting chapter 1 on September 1st and with twelve chapters, this book should keep us busy till the middle of November.

This is a modern day classic, in my perspective. I love Sally and everything she's about. M of M is solid and foundational – a must read!

I recently got a copy of this book and have been reading it myself. I’m planning to blog on it shortly myself so will flag your discussions here and refer to them.
The thing I’ve found most compelling so far is the clear, fact-based case she makes for the importance of moms’ in-home presence and their pervasive role in children’s day to day lives. Many Christian SAHM’s reconigze and believe this, but the case needs to be clearly and cleanly made as it is so far from the norm these days. Sally really did that, I felt…

Hi, I just found your blog and love it! I actually bought this book a while back and it’s sitting right here, unread, so I’d love to participate in a study with you all. I have three children ages 3 and under. (A very nice stranger stopped me in the store and said, “You must enjoy a challenge.” LOL!)

This really struck a cord with me, everything tends to be a checklist with me, often my children. I just ordered the book from Amazon and can’t wait to begin with you, we will be moving to FL in a few weeks and hoping that this will be a new start in our lives on all fronts!!

Picked mine up at our local christian bookstore today – can’t wait to begin! God has been doing an amazing work in my heart lately about raising my three sweet blessings and I am eager to continue on this path because I know that benefits for them will be endless…

I was just thinking that I’m going to need a good book to read when I return back to work. Being home with my daughter this summer has brought up some important issues for me. Yes, time management always seems to be a problem for me, as well. I look forward to the support and encouragement of a book like this. Count me in!

I have this book and have read it several times. Each time I do I find something new. I have gone to several of her confrences and she is truly a sweet, Godly woman with a love for God and mother’s.

I think I will join you in reading it again.

I have this book and have yet to read it! Although we will be moving overseas that week (back to the US) I think I might join you and come in late on the discussion. It should be good! Thanks for the encouragement to jump into it! It’s always more fun to read with someone else anyway ;)
