Spring Cleaning & Allergy Solutions

Picture of Karis from the weekend showing off her new trick of being able to pull herself up!

We had a rather full weekend at our home, so I will be delaying my post on the 4th chapter of the True Woman for tomorrow, Tuesday. It seems that the discussion is just getting started on chapter 3 anyway.

It was such a lovely weekend here in Vancouver, WA! Couldn’t help but get out there and enjoy the weather…although I had a fierce attack of allergies! Ahh! That lovely watery, itchy eyes, runny nose attack!

So I got some of that spring cleaning motivation this past weekend. The one area of my house that I felt was really calling my name was our garage. It is a small one car garage, but it is still amazing how disorganized it can get. Well, my husband and I set our minds to it on Saturday, purchased an extra storage rack (love those sturdy metal ones from Costco!), and set to work.

Homemade Natural Deodorant

For the updated version of this recipe, FAQ, along with demonstration video, please click here.

Did you know you can make your own wonderful deodorant with just a few completely natural ingredients? This recipe is awesome! It is frugal and very effective! Aaron & I have been using it for over a year now, and it has worked wonders. It smells wonderful, but very faint, so the hubby does not mind! We have tried all natural brands without much success, until we tried this! It is especially important for women to take thought to the harmful aluminum materials in deodorant as it has been linked to breast cancer, being that the armpits are so close to the chest.

Ingredients:

5-6 Tbsp Coconut oil
1/4 cup baking soda
1/4 cup arrowroot powder or cornstarch

Combine equal portions of baking soda & arrowroot powder. Then slowly add coconut oil and work it in with a spoon until it maintains the substance you desire. It should be about the same texture as the store bought kind, solid but able to be applied easily. You can either scoop this into your old dispensers or place in a small container with lid and apply with fingers with each use. After applying the product, you can just rub the remains into your hands as a lotion! This recipe lasts about 3 months for two people with regular daily use.

Read here and here for more wonderful uses of coconut oil!

Enjoying the Beauty of God’s Creation

img_1787.JPG

Our little family took an impromptu hike to Beacon Rock on Saturday, which is along the beautiful Columbia Gorge. It was so refreshing to enjoy time together as a family! I am so thankful for the beauty of God’s creation, especially here in the Northwest. I reflected upon the treasure that God has bestowed upon us to enjoy His magnificence! How can we not perceive that there is a Creator?

Rom 1:20 For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.

To the love of my life: Happy Valentine’s Day!

What a wonderful day to celebrate the wonderful love that the Lord has blessed us with! I am so thankful for the blessing of a godly husband!

What fun to serve a special breakfast for the hubby! Aaron’s favorite is pancakes (we can’t get enough of this wonderful recipe!) with peanut butter and maple syrup. I thought of cuting them into the shape of a heart, but didn’t want to waste the delicious pancakes, so I kind of laid them out in the shape of a heart. ;)
