I love watching how Karis can find such simple pleasure in makeshift toys. Her favorites lately have included the pictured mixing spoon (mommy’s little helper already), a netted bag that formally carried oranges, and her wooden basket that stores her little gadgets.
It is such a sweet reminder of the beauty of contentment and finding satisfaction in the simple things, most importantly in God alone, without the clutter of worldly things.
Am I pursuing God-honoring contentment today?
We have been going through a season of change. A recent decreasing of both of my husband’s main job projects in the web developing field has led us to rethink what God has called us to. One step we have taken was forming our mission budget. We have been feeling prompted to explore the world of becoming full-time techno missionaries, as I believe it is called. Being that Aaron is gifted in the use and knowledge of computers, building websites, etc. we have found several opportunities in this arena of equipping missionaries, agencies and churches with the tools necessary to strengthen communication and therefore resulting in the spread of resources and the gospel truth.
As we make this transition, exploring different options, and seeking the Lord’s will, we are having to cut back some more, which has resulted in saying no to some pleasures, a tighter food budget, and other things. I am so thankful for the peace that God has placed in my heart. There is such excitement to see the doors open before us and to understand more clearly God’s call for us. We would greatly appreciate your prayers during this time!
God rocks the boat every once in awhile to make sure we are trusting in Him and not ourselves. He throws in some unexpected events to spice up life a little and help us to examine our hearts to see if we are fully content in Him alone. I am learning lessons through observing the simple pleasure that my daughter is finding in a spoon. It fills me with such delight that I can have such pleasure in being her mommy and serving the Lord alongside my husband wherever the Lord calls us. If she can be satisfied with so little, can I not as well?
So for now, Momma is learning how to creatively cook beans and rice!
What a sweet post Thanks for sharing.
Does Karis miss me yet?
Brenda’s right — a lot of people are rediscovering beans & rice!
I’ve been wanting to learn to cook more vegetarian meals since meat is getting so expensive. I already stretch & skimp on meat (lucky for me, my husband is not a meat & potatoes man!!) but I’d like to have a nice repertoire of yummy vegetarian meals. So far I’ve only had good success with lentils.
Be sure and post some of your bean & rice recipes!
I think in this economy, a lot of people are having to rediscover beans and rice.
Good post!
My husband is very interested in doing some of the very same things with his skills in technology (he runs a small web development firm.) He is finding more and more that missions, non-prophet organizations and other people working for God are desperate for websites and the like, but rarely have the budget they need. He gives a rather steep discount to people in these categories as he can, but he longs to do more for them. He has a dream for a system that could really help them not only build a web presence, but provide a much needed forum for networking. I’m sure he would love to talk with you sometime.
