I am celebrating my birthday this week…and I thought it would be fun to let you know a few silly things about me. Since this is my 27th birthday, welcome to 27 Facts about Me.
1. I love bread and butter – I could probably consume for breakfast, lunch, dinner and late night snack!
2. I’ve had braces – twice on the bottom due to a bucket smashed into my mouth during a water fight.
3. As a toddler, I stole my older brother’s candy and hid behind the bed to eat it all secretly (My dad said I was the most rebellious child but then grew up to become the snuggly and easier young adult…so there’s hope).
4. My worst household chore is keeping the dishes clean.
5. My favorite color is red.
6. My favorite candy is Andes mints. Send me a box and I’ll be your friend forever.
7. My favorite ice cream is anything cheesecake flavored. Strawberry cheesecake, blackberry cheesecake…you name it.
8. I love books – I might be considered a bookoholic.
9. My favorite exercise is biking…I am currently in love with my new bike (my birthday present!)
10. I love relaxing at the beach (its my favorite spot!)
11. I have a strange fascination with roller coasters, jumping off 100 ft water falls and doing other crazy things.
12. I’ve been to Cambodia, Russia, Dominican Republic & the Philippines on various mission trips – where I’ve also consumed a fried tarantula, and a raw baby duck in its egg – they are delicacies in SE Asia.
13. I love organizing and de-cluttering – I get a strange high!
14. I’ve never liked coffee or any alcoholic beverage (I’ve just recently started enjoying a sip of IPA beer here and there).
15. I’ve traveled around the United States camping on two separate occasions as a child.
16. I never received a college degree…but I love to learn and will never stop till the day I die.
17. I have a black thumb (as opposed to a green thumb when it comes to gardening). Things die at my touch.
18. I was homeschooled through high school and I’m not socially awkward (at least I think…;).
19. I am the oldest girl of 8 children…I have 3 sisters, 4 brothers, 4 sister-in-laws, 7 brother-in-laws, and 8 (going on 9) nieces and nephews. I’m pretty blessed!
20. I have insecurity problems.
21. I never had a best friend as a child. In fact I had few friends at all until my adulthood.
22. I am a certified piano instructor.
23. I love writing and want to write a book someday, Lord willing.
24. I was born and raised in one house and never moved until I got married.
25. I love being out in nature and treasuring Gods creation…Hiking is very special to me.
26. I never learned to do my own makeup till I was 20! In fact, I never wore any before then…
27. I love to laugh and I can laugh REALLY loud.
28…one to grow on…I’ve never broken a bone in my body!
I’d love to hear a few fun facts about you too! Please share!
I would say that #19 directly influenced #18, LOL
What a wonderful blog you have. I just stumbled across it and look forward to reading more.
Lindsay,
You cracked me up! Just wanted to share that I appreciate your ministry, and the genuine nature of your writing. I am 11 years your senior, and yet I am learning as you share how the Lord works in and though you. Happy (belated) Birthday, May you have a rich year in Him!
Heather
HI! I am a new reader. Happy Birthday. I like your list of 27 things. I am alike in some of them. Some facts about me: I am a Disney lover, I have a puppy but no kids, and I am a nanny.
Everything sounds great except the 100 ft. waterfall jumping & eating a raw duck egg:) I tried to confront my fear of heights by riding the Batman ride at 6 flags (Atlanta)…12 seconds into it I found myself closing my eyes and telling the Lord that if He got me off of it, I promise I would never do something that stupid again. My legs were like wet noodles when I tried to get off. It is funny how some people can tolerate certain things and others can’t. I am a nurse and I can talk about ANY bodily function or wounds while eating and my mom freaks out.
The only thing that I like to eat raw are fruits & veggies. You sound like an enjoyable person to be around. I enjoy your blogs and tips. I first saw your page when I was looking for homemade deodorant recipes. I loved it, but unfortunately, it broke me out. I have to do scented alcohol or store bought (mainly in the summer). Keep it up.
Hi! I found your site at random, or maybe I can give credit to God! So happy to see young women seeking a ‘green’ way of living as we also do in my family. I’m a farmer, beekeeper, gardener and local foods advocate. I’m also an author with one work of fiction currently released from a major Christian publishing house and more (hopefully!) on the way. My favorite titles are “Gramma” and “Child of the King.”
I’m with you on 15 out of 28! It’s not wonder we clicked. Now, if only we didn’t live across the continent from each other…
Really loved getting to know you a little better in this post. Fun.
“3. As a toddler, I stole my older brother’s candy and hid behind the bed to eat it all secretly (My dad said I was the most rebellious child but then grew up to become the snuggly and easier young adult…so there’s hope).”
So you really think they is hope for my 4 year old (who by the way has fillings in almost every tooth in his mouth) that has been known to raid the upper reaches of his sisters -and mother’s- closets to find all the hidden candy and then proceeds to devour it all . I sure hope so!
You are so cute. Happy Birthday.
1. When you write that book, I will read it. Lord willing.
Happy Birthday! Your blogging words are always an inspiration to me and encourage me in my walk with Christ.
I agree with the commenter who questioned the alcohol use. Why pursue using it if you don’t like it? Many “nice”, christian people inadvertently become addicted to it. The high from being christian is enough for me.
We believe that the Bible never says that drinking a little alcohol in moderation is wrong. It says that becoming addicted is. There is freedom in Christ and this certainly is a liberty issue. The Bible says that whether you eat or drink, do all to the glory of God, and this shouldn’t be something we hold over people (easily leading to legalism), but rather allow people to enjoy the benefits of alcohol in a moderate amount. Jesus’ first miracle was multiplying the water into wine, so we know that it has its place, especially in celebration. I drink a little bit of alcohol together with my husband. It is a way I am serving him and building our relationship because he really appreciates being able to enjoy some together. Its really bonding for him. So my desire to learn to enjoy it a bit is more out of service to him. It’s his hobby of sorts and I’m growing in appreciating it as well. Does that make sense?
Makes perfect sense! It seems like a stretch to become addicted to it when you have never really liked it. I’m sure it’s possible, but probably more likely that you simply have a few sips from time to time.
We have a lot in common! Books and nature and hiking and being homeschooled. Not much for the taste of coffee or alcohol either. Thanks for posting!
I enjoy a half of a glass of wine every now and then…usually once or twice a year for a special dinner with my husband. When I was a teen, I searched for a buzz to cover up my misery and loneliness. Since I have been saved, He meets my needs and it no longer has a hold on me. I know my limitations and I stay within the boundaries. When you use a substance, person, hobby to give satifaction that only the Lord can fulfill, that is when you become idolatrous and have addicting behaviors.
It is much harder for me to push the plate away when I have consumed my portion than it is to refuse alcohol. Much of society does not see overindulgence in “socially acceptable” behaviors as wrong, but there are many ways that we replace the Lord. You know yourself and what the Lord expects of you:)
Love your blog. I share many things in common with you! I find it interesting that you come from a large family and wonder if you have any recommended reading on managing or reasoning behind a large family? Also, very interested in the certified piano instructor tidbit….would you share with what organization you did your certification with? I would be interested in doing that someday.
You might consider checking out any of the books written by the Duggar family, or Large Family Logistics and Start Your Family. Start Your Family is an excellent one discussing the beauty of cultivating the idea that children are a blessing. As far as the certified piano tidbit, that was done through my home state. You might check out Music Teachers National for more info.
I’m 23, a mother of two; my husband and I have a heart for church planting… We don’t have a lot in common; but I still love your blog and do share a love for Jesus, homemaking, and nutrition
o yes.. my hudband loves IPA’s but it seems to be the one kind of beer i can’t tolerate
Alexandra! I’m a 22 year old mother of two! glad to see another young young momma around! ;D not that i know the age of anyone else around here! regardless all of this and your all’s responses are encouraging! i love learning more about God’s people!
Happy belated birthday! Loved reading this list and getting to know you better…definitely some things I never would have picked up on reading your other posts! (You ate balut?? I could never do it!)
I am curious about your reasoning behind drinking beer. I mean, doesn’t the Bible say that whoever is deceived by alcohol is not wise? How do you justify drinking even a sip of beer? I’m just curious about that…since it is so clear that you have a love for Jesus and His word! Thanks!
Hi Nicole… I noticed your concern with alcohol… I think you it it on the head when you said the Bible says, “whoever is deceived by alcohol.” Enjoying one or two drinks is far different then becoming under the influence of alcohol. Also a thought is that Matthew 11 tells us that Jesus came eating and drinking and that he was accused of being a drunkard and a gluten (which he clearly wasn’t); but he was willing to have a drink with messy people. 1 Corinthians tells us that whether we eat or drink we are to do it to the glory of God… Having a drink with a thankful heart and good friends; can be a way to worship; just like enjoying a meal… Food can be abused, sex can be abused, alcohol can be a abused; they can also all be used to worship and enjoy gifts that God has given us.
I agree Alexandra! Thanks for sharing. So my desire to learn to enjoy it a bit is more out of service to him. It’s his hobby of sorts and I’m growing in appreciating it as well. Does that make sense?
Happy Birthday! It was fun to read more about you. And I love the picture you shared, it is too cute!
Happy Birthday! Thanks for the fun facts about you!! It’s so easy to see all the women around us as just in their role as “moms”, but I forget we all have our wonderful and quirky things too. You are such an awesome, intentional homemaker, so it was REALLY fun to see your fun side and find out you love roller coasters, strange foods, that you have a black thumb (so you’re NOT perfect! haha), and that you laugh really loud. =) =) I want to be such an intentional, godly mama and wife that I forget to celebrate the fun quirks about me too! I (aside from being married 6 years, having a wonderful husband, and 3 yr old daughter and a 2 month old daughter) love shopping (not such a surprise I guess!), I have a silly habit of collecting unique and useful containers, I traveled all over the country competing in Drum Corps International for 4 years of summers after high school, I LOVE coffee and am maybe addicted a little! (I pity you just a little that you don’t like it… =D), I love art and details and instead of using a calligraphy pen, I will DRAW and sketch out the calligraphy letters by sight using a fine tip artists pen, ha!, taking 4 times as long as it would to use a calligraphy pen, I could go through our family pictures all day long every day, organizing and editing down, if my eyes didn’t twitch from spending so much time at the computer, my FAVORITE chore is laundry, I have a nose ring, and I can rap in French (okay, only one song). =D =D
Happy Birthday and may God bless you richly in His love today!!
I’m 33, I have 4 kids ages 5 and under, and I use cloth napkins and make green smoothies for the whole family to enjoy thanks to you!
Happy birthday!! I will be turning 27 in a few months also.
Happy birthday!!!
I am 26. I was born in the US but have lived in south America 12 years in a combination of childhood and adulthood. Our son gets two passports. Love your blog!
Happy birthday!
1. I’m 25 and I don’t know how to apply anything other than mascara and some tinted moisturizer.
2. I have insecurity problems too.
3. I’m a cat person.
I got a chuckle from #19 as you have 3 sisters and 7 brothers-in-law, if I am reading it correctly. : ) Thank you for sharing. I so enjoy your blog and pray for your ministry through it. Happy birthday!
I am including both sides of my family…my husband has 6 brothers!
You’re almost exactly one year older than me! Happy birthday!
Just wanted to thank you so much for all your encouragement! I think that it must be tough keeping a blog going, but you do a wonderful job. I love your ideas and the fact that you are so willing to share them with us! Be encouraged, sister–you are such a blessing! Happy birthday!!!
Happy Birthday!
Does this mean in October I’m going to have to write fifty-one (51 – YIKES!) things??? *LOL*
1. I always ask for a cheesecake bday cake.
2. I remember watching JFK’s funeral on the television.
3. I am embarrassed at the number of unread emails in my Yahoo account (a lot are ads, etc).
I am also from a homeschool family of eight.
You & I could very well be the same person – amazing! I’m the oldest girl of 8, homeschooled through high school, etc. etc. =D We should hang out. Also, Happy Birthday!
Happy birthday! It’s my brother’s bday as well. . I just laughed through all of your 27 things… Because a few sound just like me!
I’m glad to hear you had a wonderful birthday! I love your blog…the focus, the inspiration, the food. We have incorporated quite a few of your recipes into our routine and love the nutrition and yummy-ness they bring to our everyday life! So, thank you for all your hard work keeping it running. A few fun facts about me…
I love to create…in the kitchen, on a canvas/paper, with fabric…pretty much any media!
I have developed a green thumb (it didn’t used to be that way)
I’ve had 1 broken bone…my leg which I broke in H.S. in a race at the State Track Meet
I have a wonderful husband and 3 spunky boys (ages 2, 4, 6)
I like dark chocolate and lots of it…I cry when it’s not in the house and my 2 year old comforts me
This post just confirms what I already knew! You and I are sooooo much alike!
Happy Birthday sweet Lindsay!
Here are the ways you and I are twins!
Name (although we spell it differently)
Similar blog titles
I’m a book-aholic too!
Biking is my favorite sport–best way for me to exercise.
I struggle to keep my dishes done.
I laugh very loud too!
I like to hike and be in nature.
I struggle with insecurity.
I was homeschooled through 2 years of high school and am not socially stunted.
I get a strange high from organizing and de-cluttering too!
I love relaxing at the beach–it’s my favorite spot too!
I love bread and butter.
I was a rebellious child who even rigged up an elaborate mirror tunnel to watch Dr. Quinn from my bedroom (through the wall) one time when I was grounded from TV. But I was a fairly easy teen too!
Hope you have a great special day!
I love the picture and the facts! I don’t tend to comment as a way of limiting my computer time! But I have read your blog for ages now. I wondered if you could write a bit more about growing up without a best friend. I have 5 children and my oldest was at school for a while before we started Home ed. She had a best friend and still misses that connection 3 years later. I wondered how you found it. What encouraged you etc. I have prayed a lot and feel that God has says that my children could have any old friends now or we can hold out for his best. So that is what we are doing. And I do encourage them to be friends with each other. I just wondered what your thoughts were about this and if you have any ideas/tips etc.
Thank you.
I would say that my lack of friends was in way attributed to being homeschooled. I had plenty of interaction with other kids in our church circle. It was just that I experienced alot of rejection from those friends that I tried to pursue. It was good because it really taught me to invest in my siblings and make them my best friends and overall it drew me closer to the Lord and a growing desire to serve him with my single years. I would encourage you to seek to encourage her to invest in her siblings…taking them on little outings. Keep praying for her. Seek out other godly families (with kids that correspond with your own) in your community that you admire and start fellowshipping more intentionally with them. God provides the right friendship for the right season of life. When I needed it most, God sent me a dear friend with a likeminded passion for missions. It was a special gift to me. I hope that helps. Encouraging her to make her best friend Jesus is the best gift you can give your daughter, and also encouraging her to look for opportunities to serve others can be a great outlet.
Thank you for this. It has given me lots things to think about. I really like the idea of sibling outings. And also have been wondering about serving opportunities recently… And you are spot on about Jesus being the best best friend.
thanks for sharing, I feel like it’s somewhat more of a “whole” picture of who you are! sometimes when my house feels totally crazy and out of order, i think of you and your blog and how it seems like you have it all together all the time with your homemaking planner and all the systems you have in place for things, but I know that isn’t true either. and I shouldn’t think that way. you are human and struggle at times like everyone else. it’s just easy to put bloggers on a pedestal sometimes because they only share so much and the stuff they usually share give viewers an impression that everything is a lot more shiny and perfect than it really is. but really truly, I have learned so much from you and your blog and it’s a big blessing to me. sorry for the long comment!
Happy Birthday!
I’m 21, and my Hubby is 27. We met online through ChurchOfChristSingles.com and Facebook. We married 5 months and 6 days after the first message was sent!
When we married, I moved from Alabama to Arkansas, 10 hours from where I grew up!
I love to read, blog, crochet, and do all sorts of crafty things.
I’m steadily trying to live a more natural life style. Baby steps
Happy Birthday!! Love the picture!…and the facts…my parents just returned from a mission in the Philippines this summer, but I haven’t gotten to go on one yet, though I’ve always wanted to. Hopefully soon. Maybe a medical trip with my husband…My worst household chore is laundry. I say this as I’m looking at two mounds of laundry, one clean one dirty…I hope your week is wonderful and that someone comes to do your dishes on your birthday.
Happy Birthday! I just recently found your site and I love it! My husband and I have 3 girls and we are full time missionaries (we work in the U.S., Mexico and Nicaragua). I also LOVE to write and I am currently working on my first book. Have you checked out Christian Writers Guild? I took one class with them and my goal is to have my book done to enter it into their Operation First Novel contest next year.
I would bring you a box of Andes if we lived just a wee bit closer. I am jealous if the bike. I am dying for a bike… O well, all in good time!
So the Oregon Mama’s that support ReecesRainbow.org are hosting car washes on Sept 15 to raise money for Heath. If you know anyone near that would love to come we would love to wash their car! (I will be at the Salem one but they are all good ladies and no one will be in bikini’s =D) http://reecesrainbow.org/?s=heath
The Vancouver car wash will be at Bob’s Paint Land,1501 NE 99th Vancouver, WA 98665, from 10am-2pm
Bring your friends and neighbors! ((If you come I will have Andes for you. NO joke!)
Oh Lindsay—you are so funny (cute pic)!! Happy birthday. May God bless you with health and wisdom. You are loved by so many and I think you are one special lady.
We hike and bike all the time with my husband and three girls. Did you ever go biking to Champoeg Park. It’s about 35 min drive from Portland. It’s a bike trail and at the very end there is a little store/restaurant—the food is made from scratch (nothing like at home, but not bad) and they sell ice cream and shakes. If you make it all the way to the store and go back….you probably wont go another round.
When my sisters and I get together for girl time, we just walk it out and it’s a great exercise. I hope you get a chance to go there. God bless.
Happy Birthday! You are such a treasure. Thanks for sharing the wisdom God blesses you with. Though you’re younger than me, your wisdom is beyond your years and I feel like you mentor me all of the time.
I loved reading that list! I’ll write some of my own:
1.) I married a guy that I didn’t want to date (my dad wanted me to give him a chance)
2.) I have a strange attraction toward things that nobody does or thinks you should do- such as eat dog (which I did while in China)
3.) I have 3 babies 3 yrs and under and I nurse them all (the 3 yr old only occasionally)
Happy Birthday! I’m celebrating my 27th birthday today!:) I may have to share some fun facts about myself over on my blog later today too, cute idea & such fun getting to know you better:).
Love this picture of you!!! Cuteness!
Happy Birthday!! I love the picture-so funny Thanks for sharing all those cool facts and thanks for all you do on this website. It is truly encouraging!
God bless you!
P.s.-I guess we’re supposed to put stuff about us on here too. Hmm…I have been to almost every state in the US at least twice and sometimes multiple times since I grew up in a family who traveled on an evangelistic trips 14 weeks a year.
Happy birthday! Loved reading this list. I’m 28 and an the oldest of 8 as well only in our family we had 7 girls and the youngest is a boy! Love it. I only have 2 nephews so far (and one daughter of my own) and can’t wait until there’s more – being an aunt is the greatest!
I have kids that are exactly your kids ages! I’m pretty sure I had all of mine just after you had yours (Feb.13, March 9 and Sept. 22). The only difference is I have boy and girl twins as my youngest. I live in Oregon, and was also home schooled. But, we’re putting our Kindergartener in public school this year, it’s just a tad too crazy around here most days for me to be able to give him what he needs this year. Maybe in the future…
Great list! It gave me a chuckle. I see so many of those in myself. As for wierd foods, I’ve had armadillo in Guatemala and loctus dipped in honey in Isreal, the perfect place for a John the Baptist moment….
I hope you had a wonderful birthday! Blessings!
Happy birthday! We have lots in common except the strange food part and I love my
coffee! My dream is also to write a book one day and I would love to write the whole thing either on the beach or hidden in the woods~my two favorite places!
Ahh! Yes…writing on the beach would be my dream as well!
Happy Birthday! I too have been to the Philippines on a mission trip and eaten those eggs! Hope your day is blessed!!!
Happy Birthday to you! Thank you for the love and time you put into your blog – we are all so blessed by your thoughtfulness in sharing your ideas and resources! God bless you and your family!
#8 & #17, yep that’s me! Haha! Hope you had a wonderful birthday!
Based on this list, I think we should be friends. Just sayin’. We have a ton in common… ok, maybe not a ton… but a lot. Thanks for sharing!
Happy Birthday! Thanks for sharing some fun things about yourself! I can’t believe those things you ate. Disgusting! You are a brave woman!
Haha I love the picture! I also have a black thumb… It is so inconvenient, lol.
