Well, my computer has been having its own issues lately, thus my absence. I think it definitely has been the Lord’s doing. My computer breakdown along with reading Crystal’s interview on the topic of balancing computer & family (an excellent read by the way!), led me to realize how easily the computer can consume so much of my time. Yes, I have aimed to limit my computer time to during naptimes, but once I get on the computer time just flies by at lightning speed. It was as if God was gently reminding me of my priorities and that I really didn’t need to take so much time in my writing, responding, and researching online. My husband and children are my first priority during this season of my life. It has actually been very refreshing not to have a computer so easy at my fingertips.
I love this quote from Crystal:
“If there is one thing I could encourage every mommy blogger or work-at-home mom out there to remember, it is this: anyone can be a pretty good blogger or pretty good business owner, but there is only person who is mommy to your children and wife to your husband. Don’t let all the good things out there take precedence over the best things. You only have one life to live–make it count!”
That being said, I will be limiting my blogging time here in the future to three times a week as I am able (Tues, Wed & Fri is my goal). I will have to steal time to use my husband’s laptop to write to you all, which he uses full-time for his business, so thus my limitations. It will force me to write quickly and stay focused…which I believe will be very good for me. I want to continue to share with you all as the Lord has allowed this to be a wonderful ministry, but I also want to serve my family, my church, and my ministry through our home and hospitality. By the grace of God I want to bring the most glory to Him in how I live my days, balance my time and priorities and keep Him first!
Striving to keep the balance,
Lindsay
I hear ya sister! There’s a time warp when I get on this thing! I was really convicted this past Mother’s day when my 1st grader made a little book for me at school. It asked what mommy’s favorite thing to do was, and she drew a picture of me working on the computer. HOW SAD!!! I’ll be cutting back too. At least when she’s home. : )
This is a great reminder. I have been struggling with finding balance in this area as well.
More often than not I pre write my posts a week in advance, then set the auto post feature. It really helps and keeps me on track with what is most important.
I also have 4 or 5 filler posts ready to go should “life happen”.
Good for you!!!!
Many blessings to you and yours!!!
Horrah! I am giving you a standing ovation.
amen!!!!!! I think a lot of us know this deep deep down. it takes a lot of discipline!
Hi Lindsay!
I just wanted to leave you a note (Finally!) to let you know how BLESSED I have been by your website/blog…your words of advice, encouragement and information have been so helpful to me as I have transitioned from working woman to stay-at-home mommy over the past 8 months. Most importantly, I appreciate your ultimate surrender to the heavenly Father in your role and ministry as wife and mom. It has inspired me as well as challenged me to live out my calling with purpose and creativity! Blessings to you and your precious family in this time of shifting of priorities. Thank you so much!
Love, Joy (from southern California)
I think that is a great plan
I have been hiding in the background, admiring your ministry through this blog for some time now. God has used you to teach me so many things as I have begun the endeavor of natural living, whole food cooking, and so much more. I was curious how little baby number two would change things. And I must say I am ultimately encouraged and challenged by your commitment to follow God’s calling on your life as wife, mother, and homemaker, by stepping back from your ministry to others (quite a popular ministry to others!! It takes a true love for the Lord and His will, to do take that step, and I just wanted to say thanks for the example. God has been challenging me in this same way in the last year of my life. It is good to know I’m not alone out here! Praying for you.
Beautiful post, Lindsay. This has been on my heart as of late also. May the Lord bless your time with your family.
Bravo!
This is such a timely encouragement for me, not because of too much time on the computer, but because of feeling guilty about not keeping up with my blog. Thank you for sharing your heart. May the Lord keep us all abiding in His Son in every last inch of our lives. God is good!
Thanks, Lindsay for the wonderful reminder. I encourage you to keep these priorities in place!
