“Singleness has been a noble and courageous path…ever since Jesus and the Apostle Paul chose it ‘because of the kingdom of heaven’…The courage comes when you sense God calling you to singleness (for this chapter of your life) and you accept the call with zeal and creative planning for His glory.” - John Piper
I love the way Paul addresses singles in 1 Cor. 7:34-35:
“An unmarried woman or virgin is concerned about the Lord’s affairs: Her aim is to be devoted to the Lord in both body and spirit. But a married woman is concerned about the affairs of this world – how she can please her husband. I am saying this for your own good, not to restrict you, but that you may live in a right way in undivided devotion to the Lord.”
I wanted to recommend a few resources for your attention.
Blogs for Single Woman
These two blogs in particular stand out to me as striving to inspire single young ladies to live undivided devotion to the Lord:
Books for Singles
His Chosen Bride: Applying Proverbs 31 as a Single Young Woman by Jennifer Lamp – this was one of my favorite books inspiring me to live for the service of others in my single years. A book to exhort young women to fully and completely trust God with their futures, placing their hopes and dreams, even the “desires of thier hearts” into His trustworthy hands to serve Him with dedication. Jennifer leads the reader through the beautiful attributes of Proverbs 31, challenging single women to live out these qualities unto the Lord as their Husband. Great book for mom & daughters to read together!
So Much More by Anna Sofia & Elizabeth Botkin – an wonderful challenging read on the remarkable influence that daughters with vision can have on their families and ultimately the kingdom of God. I love the challenge this book gives for young woman to fully devote themselves to serving their families and especially furthering the vision of their fathers. Beautiful testimony from these young ladies.
The Rich Single’s Life by Andrew Farmer – God intents this season to be one of great richness, focus and fulfillment in him – a time when abundance joins with opportunity, and your identity in Christ emerges from undivided devotion to the Lord. This is the message so clearly presented in this excellent book.
