Diaper Rash Salve & Other Products

Northern Essence is a wonderful online store for all your natural body care needs, including facial, scrubs, soaps, baby products, pregnant mommy items, etc. Northern Essence is re-opening their doors today after a two month transition while moving. I have been anticipating this greatly as I am completely out of my products!

They make the best natural diaper rash salve I have tried! It is an excellent combination of fresh beeswax, calendula infused olive oil, avacado oil, emu oil, cocoa butter, shea butter, tea tree & lavender essential oils. I love the sweet smell that it provides for my girl’s little bum. She had been plagued since birth with repeated diaper rashes, and this creme has been the only one to solve that problem completely! Being a cloth diaper mommy, I was having to use disposables at night just to keep the rashes away. I tried many others cremes including desitin, meleda, nature’s gate, and vasaline. I love the texture of it too. No more sticky, hard to scrub off, white stuff. It is a clear and fragrant salve. Now I can’t give any guarantees, as every baby might be different, but this salve is well worth the try! Safe with cloth diapers as well. Plus one 2oz container ($4.95) lasted around 3 months for us. By the way, if you are concerned about the lavender oil for your little guy, you can also purchase a version without this addition.

For my fellow cloth diapering mommy’s, I have also really enjoyed the diaper wipe solution. I have made my own in the past without much success. Karis’ little bum was always reacting to them. I tried this product out and was pleasantly surprised.

The northern exposure link is not working.

      It is fixed. Thanks!

I know this is a really old article, but I’m still catching up on all the archives… Something I was told 25 years ago when I was pregnant with my first baby was to use vitamin E on diaper rash. I did (with all three of my children and my grand-girl) – and it worked! :D

I’m thinking though…since I’m a germ-a-phobe here. Do you take enough in your fingers so you don’t have to “double dip” after touching your baby?

I mean does a little go a long way? It definitely needs to come in a tube though. Packaging is cute though. But I can see bacteria setting in, if you have to “double dip”.

I’m curious about those cylinders though. Is that a lid on top?

I have the push up version with a lid and thus no worries there, but have used the container in the past and a little does go a long way.

Gotcha! Now I know what the cylinder container is.

    Lindsay…

VERY frugal alternative to wipes. Wash cloths w/soap and water. Just wash w/the diapers.

I tried Northern Essense diaper rash salve (tea tree/lavender oil free version–the other was too strong for my sensitive nose/allergies) sometime after reading your review. I was wondering, have you had any problems with this causing repelling on your BumGenius? I have been told by some that I would and been reluctant to use it with the BumGenius diapers, but would like to if it won’t cause build-up and repelling issues.

The NE diaper rash salve has never caused any problems with my BG diapers (repelling or staining). That is why I used this brand originally as recommended on Diaperpin.com reviews and such. Read more reviews here.

    Kimi,

As I mentioned in my post you can buy the diaper salve without the essential oils if you are concerned for the boys. I thought that was clear, but I guess not. I have researched this a little bit and there doesn’t seem to be enough proof of this happening, so I personally won’t be too concerned.

I was also wondering, does the one without lavender essential oil also not have the tea tree oil? Obviously the essential oil free one would be a better choice for little boys. ;-)

Thanks for sharing about this site. I hadn’t heard of them before (how did you find them?). They sound great. I have a diaper creme that has worked great for me as well, that sounds similar (but without the essential oils).

I just wanted to mention that you probably shouldn’t use this diaper creme on a little boy because when you combine lavender and tea tree oil , it can actually start acting like a female hormone. This was found after two little boys started, *ahem* growing breasts. Both of their mothers used lavender and tea tree oil on them (I think maybe it was in their bath water?) and it turns out that was the cause. :-)
